Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use petroleum jelly (Vaseline etc.) on adult products as a lubricant?
A: No. Petroleum jelly (or indeed almost any oil based product) breaks down the material that many adult products are made from which over time destroys them. Use a water based lubricant.

Q: Can you get a sexually transmitted disease if you wear a condom?
A: Yes. While condoms dramatically reduce your risk of contracting an STD, you may still acquire one from skin to skin contact in areas affected outside those protected by the condom. For example, Herpes may contracted from other areas of the body where it is present (e.g. buttocks, areas of the groin outside of the genitals etc.)

Q: Can you contract a sexually transmitted disease from oral sex?
A: Yes. Though rare, you may contract an STD such as Herpes from oral-genital sex. Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 which is most commonly associated with cold sores may infect the genital area while HSV2 or genital Herpes may conversely infect the mouth. Infections of HSV outside their preferred site are generally rare and of a significantly less severe nature than when "at home".

Q: Can you get pregnant from oral sex?
A: No. However, if sperm comes in contact with the vaginal area there is still a chance (extremely remote) that pregnancy may occur.

Q: Can I contract a sexually transmitted disease such as crab lice from toilet seats or door knobs?
A: No. This is a common misconception. The only way you may contract an STD is skin to skin or blood to blood contact.
