Does Penis Size Matter?
Does penis size matter? Some experts say no, some say yes, but
all of the information remains fairly ambiguous. What we know for
sure is that it is a subject which causes a lot of talk and speculation
among both men and women. The practice of women attempting to gauge
size of their date's member (or someone that they are interested
in) before sleeping with them goes back a long time. The saying
that penis size is related to the size of the man's hands and feet
is as old as the hills.
What is normal anyway? The average length of a non-erect penis
is just under 4 inches, or 9.5 centimeters. However, erect penises
are a different story - they tend to equalize penis size. The famous
Kinsey studies concluded that 6 inches is the average length of
an erect penis, with almost 90% between five and seven inches. What
this means is that a man with a smaller flaccid penis gains a higher
volume percentage during an erection than a man with a larger flaccid
penis. This tends to render them roughly the same size when erect,
as a result, less than 4% of men have penises smaller than 4.5 inches
or larger than 7.5 inches. There is however, a rare condition called
micropenis. A man with a micropenis has a penis length of about
¾ of an inch, although the penis is normally formed. This
condition can sometimes be treated with testosterone injections
or oral medication.
Most men are at least somewhat interested or concerned about how
their penis size compares to other men's, which is a psychologically
normal reaction. Less healthy, however, is the fact some men are
so uncomfortable with their penis size that it actually interferes
with dating and / or sex. In fact, the overwhelming majority of
men wish that they were more well endowed.
Why are men so hung-up about the size of their member? The answer
is multi-faceted, but not extremely complex. Men from all cultures
have simply been socially conditioned to believe that bigger is
better. The bigger your penis, the more masculine you are. What
is the most notable physical difference between men and women? Men
have penises. As so many men feel that this is one of the only things
that differentiates them from women, the thought that the more he
has, the more of a man he must be.
Another reason why men feel that it is necessary to have a large
penis is peer pressure. It is your fellow man that gives you the
hardest time about measuring up to par. Beginning at puberty in
the school locker room, when the boys who haven't "matured"
as quickly as the others are often humiliated by the taunting and
teasing by their classmates. This behavior continues throughout
adolescence and contrary to popular belief, peer pressure does not
end when you reach adulthood. The thing to remember though is that
men do not usually see each other in an erect state
wherein
the differences would certainly be significantly less apparent.
